What is Yoga?

The word Yoga, comes from a Sanskrit word "yug" which means to unite (union).  The union is not a physical one, it is a connection with the divine.  The consciousness (real mind) with the divine consciousness, the spirit within.

Simplified, Yoga is the connection of the mind, body and spirit.

The physical practice of yoga was developed thousands of years ago in India and since then many teachers have developed and created their own unique styles.

The practice of yoga involves movement of the body, specific breathing techniques and meditation or relaxation.  Yoga is beneficial to the physical and mental bodies creating a wellness for the body, mind and spirit.

Yoga is a practice for everyone.  There are many styles of yoga to be explored; some involve a more physical practice of fast paced postures, such as Vinyasa or hot yoga.  Other styles like Hatha, Yin and iyengar are slower, more alignment concentrated.  And still there are more that are gentle and accessible, such as chair yoga and Restorative yoga.

When possible, explore, explore, explore.
